Class Notes: June 2018

’01  The Synergetic

Kyle White, OSU Extension, Medina County, starting June 1 Kyle have been promoted to Area Leader for OSU Extension. Area Leadership is a new initiative by OSU Extension meant to provide a higher level of local leadership. Area Leaders are replacing Regional Directors who were leading over 20 counties. The new structure will allow leadership of 3-5 counties. Regional Leaders have been moved into higher level planning including operations and organizational development. She looks forward to leading Lorain, Summit and Medina Counties in strategy development, professional development, and meeting the needs of the constituents in all three counties. She will continue to provide teaching and will offer research backed resources and education in all three counties. All other positions in Medina County remain as before. Her home office will be moved from Medina County to Lorain County.

’02 The Enlightened

Dennis Neate, Oswald Companies, was recognized on May 20, 2018, by the SHC/The Arc of Medina County with the Bridge Builder Award.

’06  The Enterprising

Theresa Laffey, Medina Library, Medina County District Library, after 30 years of service to the Medina County District Library she will be retiring at the end of June. Theresa commented, “It has been a great career working at a wonderful public library system.” Though she is retiring from the library, she is not retiring from life and can be reached at her personal email address: t_laffey@hotmail.com.

’07  The Inspired

Sharon McNeil, Community Volunteer, welcomed a new grandson, Finn Rory, to the world on April 16, 2018.  He is the third child for my daughter Mary-Kathleen.

’08 That Class

Colleen Rice, Leadership Medina County, was recognized on May 20, 2018, by the SHC/The Arc of Medina County with the Bridge Builder Award.

’11 The Emerald Class

Janet Gammell, Medina County Health Department, congratulations on your upcoming retirement on June 29, 2018.

’14 The Class On Fire

Brian Kerns, Bonezzi Switzer Polito & Hupp Co. L.P.A., is Immediate Past President of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, a state-wide association of civil litigation defense lawyers in Ohio. Brian is current President of the Medina County Bar Association. He is a Shareholder in the firm of Bonezzi Switzer Polito and Hupp and has an office on Medina Square.


Krista R. Wasowski, MSW, MPH, Medina County Health Department, had an article published in the May/June 2018 issue of the Journal of Public Health Management & Practice. Ohio Statewide Efforts to Align Public Health/Health Care Population Health Planning Journal of Public Health Management and Practice. 24:S66-S68, May/June 2018. The article summarizes work that she has been doing with a group of leaders since 2015 to improve health outcomes.

16′ Silver Jubilee Class

Shelly Wharton, SHC/The Arc of Medina County, received the President’s Award on May 20, 2018, from SHC/The Arc of Medina County.

’18 Emerging Leaders
Erin Deal, recently accepted a new job as HR Specialist – Talent Development at Bravo Wellness in Cleveland.
