Signature Class Explores Environment & Quality of Life Across Medina County
Our Signature Class spent October 8th immersed in one of the most vibrant and wide-ranging days of their program — Environment & Quality of Life Day. From libraries and recycling to local arts and fall fun, the class explored how Medina County’s people, places, and programs all contribute to making this community a beautiful place to live, work, and thrive.
A Morning at Medina Library
The day began at the Medina Library, where participants were warmly welcomed by Julianna Bedel ’01, Executive Director of the Medina County District Library (MCDL), and Connie Sureck ’22 of the MCDL Brunswick Library. Their passion for community learning set the tone for a morning dedicated to discovery and connection.

Participants rotated through hands-on sessions showcasing the many resources MCDL offers:
-
Maker Space with Lauren Kuntzman, highlighting the tools and technology available to spark creativity and innovation.
-
Database Demonstrations with Chris Horvath and Larissa Rudd, showing how easily Medina County residents can access reliable information and research tools.
-
A Tour of the Bookmobile with Amy Noel-Lucas, reminding us how MCDL reaches every corner of the county, ensuring access for all.
Breakfast, generously sponsored by Medina County District Library, kept everyone fueled as they dove into Dementia Friendly Training led by Suzie Muniak ’18 — a thoughtful and interactive session helping participants understand the challenges faced by those living with dementia and how small, compassionate actions can make a big difference.
Before leaving the library, the class also heard from Lori Wilkinson ’25 of the Soprema Senior Center and Laura Toth ’01 of Medina County Adult and Senior Services, who shared insights into the programs and partnerships supporting older adults in Medina County.
Lunch at Market 42
A midday stop at Market 42 offered the perfect opportunity to refuel and connect over a meal that truly had something for everyone. Thank you to Owner Nick for hosting us and to our generous lunch sponsors:
Skyview Lodge, Kastner Westman & Wilkins LLC, Croghan Colonial Bank, Community Energy Advisors, and an anonymous donor whose support helps make days like this possible.

Then, Mapleside owner Greg Clement spoke about the legacy and continued growth of the farm — a Medina County staple for family fun and local produce. Participants even got to experience a quintessential fall treat: a hayride through the orchards and a trip down Mapleside’s iconic giant slide!
Wrapping Up with Parks, Arts, and Community
The class concluded their day at Plum Creek Park, surrounded by crisp autumn air and scenic fall colors. Here, they met with several passionate leaders making a difference in Medina County’s quality of life:
-
Nate Eppink ’22 of the Medina County Park District, who shared how local parks connect people to nature and community well-being.
-
Kelly Parks ’20, representing the Medina County Arts Council and Davis-Parks School of the Arts, who spoke about how creativity enriches community identity.
