Junior Leadership Class of 2026: History Day

This month, Junior Leadership History Day allowed students to explore Medina’s past while developing the leadership and social skills that will shape their futures. Through a mix of hands-on learning, local history, and team challenges, the day brought together lessons in connection, community, and civic engagement.
The day began with a lesson on Emotional Intelligence: Social Skills, focusing on how strong relationships and effective communication can open doors to opportunity and growth. Students practiced conversation skills, active listening, and inclusion through engaging activities—including a lively paper airplane exercise designed to help them connect with classmates. They quickly learned that leadership isn’t just about speaking up—it’s about making others feel seen and heard.
Students then rotated between an informative tour of Root Candle, where they discovered the company’s remarkable history and craftsmanship, and a session with historian Rod Knight, who shared fascinating insights into Medina’s rich heritage and how the past continues to shape the community today.
Afterward, students enjoyed lunch at Veterans Memorial Hall, generously sponsored by the Hall itself, where discussions centered on the history of Medina County Veterans in the service, including a conversation about Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State—programs that inspire young people to participate in government and community service.
The day concluded with a scavenger hunt around Medina Square, where students learned about local businesses and put their group leadership skills into action.
By the end of the day, students had faced challenges, explored the unknown, and discovered just how much they can achieve when they work together.
