Rice Participates in Groundbreaking Study on Children in Hardship

Colleen Rice, Executive Director of Leadership Medina County recently participated on the National Leadership Committee for a new research brief spotlighting children from low-income families.

ALICE in Focus: Children reveals that while 12 million children nationwide were in poverty pre-pandemic, another 24 million lived in households that are ALICE^® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). ALICE families earn above the federal poverty level but less than the cost of basics. Because traditional measures of poverty have overlooked these struggling families, their children have been locked out of critical supports such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
