Junior Leadership Class of 2025: Strengthening Minds and Bodies at Health & Wellness Day

Health & Wellness Day Wrap-Up: A Powerful End to Junior Leadership’s Year

As the Junior Leadership Medina County (JrLMC) Class of 2025 reached their journey’s final official class day, we teamed up with Cleveland Clinic Medina for a meaningful and memorable Health & Wellness Day. Focusing on mental and physical well-being, the day was filled with hands-on experiences, real-world insights, and tools that students can carry with them long after the program ends.

Caring for the Community: Medina County Children’s Center

The day began with a powerful session from Ashley Krause, Executive Director of the Medina County Children’s Center. Ashley shed light on the critical issues the center addresses in our community and its role in supporting vulnerable children and families. A special guest stole the show — Cully, the therapy dog who helps bring calm and comfort to children during some of their most difficult moments. His gentle presence reminded students of empathy and support’s impact.

QPR Training: A Life-Saving Skill

Next, students participated in QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training led by Devan Althen. This critical workshop equipped students with the tools to recognize the warning signs of someone in crisis and how to respond with care, confidence, and clarity. It was a reminder that leadership isn’t just about action — it’s also about listening, noticing, and helping others.

Stretch, Breathe, Believe: Yoga and the Power of Positivity

Jen Griest Hayes guided the group through a yoga session focused on body awareness, mindfulness, and positivity. Students learned practical stretches and breathing exercises—many of which can be done anywhere, even in the classroom—to manage stress and reconnect with themselves. The experience emphasized the importance of pausing and staying grounded, especially in today’s fast-paced world.

Career Exploration at Medina Hospital

The day concluded with an all-encompassing career fair. Students had the opportunity to interact with professionals from across the healthcare spectrum. From clinical care to behind-the-scenes operations, students got a firsthand look at the variety of career paths available in the health field and the collaboration it takes to care for a community.
